Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using eleyed ("the Service") at eleyed.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all users, including visitors, registered accounts, and API consumers.

2. Service Description

eleyed provides automated document and text redaction using AI-based detection. The Service identifies and removes or replaces personally identifiable information (PII) and other sensitive data from text and PDF documents submitted by users.

3. Data and Privacy

eleyed is built privacy-first. Specifically:

  • Documents and text you submit for redaction are processed in memory and not stored on our servers.
  • We do not retain your original content, redacted output, or any extracted text.
  • We store only aggregate metadata for your activity log: the type of operation, number of detections by category, credits used, and timestamp. No content is stored.
  • Custom terms you define in the redact interface are stored in your browser only (localStorage) and are never transmitted to our servers.
  • Account data (email address, hashed password, credit balance, API keys) is stored securely in our database.

4. Accounts

You must register an account to use the Service. You are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate registration information and keeping it up to date.
  • Maintaining the security of your password and API keys.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, are found to be fraudulent, or where payment obligations are not met.

5. Credits and Billing

Access to the Service is credit-based. Credits are consumed per operation according to the rates published on the pricing page. Credits are non-transferable between accounts.

Credits may be obtained through:

  • One-time purchase — credits are added to your balance immediately upon successful payment.
  • Subscription — credits are granted at the start of each billing period. Unused credits from a subscription period do not roll over.

All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store payment card details.

6. Subscriptions and Cancellation

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You may cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period and you retain access and credits until then.

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with reasonable notice. Price changes will not affect the current billing period.

7. Refunds

Subscriptions: Subscription fees are non-refundable. If you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period and you retain your credits until then. No partial refunds are issued for unused periods.

One-time credit purchases: If you have not used any credits from a purchase, you may request a full refund within 7 days of the transaction by contacting us at support@eleyed.com. Once credits have been used, no refund is available for that purchase.

If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 14 days and we will review it. All payments are processed by Stripe and refunds are returned to the original payment method.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Process content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes third-party rights.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or probe the Service in ways not permitted by these terms.
  • Circumvent rate limits, billing, or access controls.
  • Resell or sublicense access to the Service without prior written agreement.
  • Submit content that could expose us or third parties to legal liability.

You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit content to the Service, including any third-party data subject to data protection obligations.

9. Accuracy and Limitations

eleyed uses AI-based detection which is not perfect. The Service:

  • May not detect all instances of PII or sensitive information in a given document.
  • May occasionally redact content that is not PII (false positives).
  • Should not be relied upon as the sole control for compliance with data protection regulations.

You are responsible for reviewing redacted output before use. We make no warranty that the Service will meet your specific compliance requirements.

10. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, and documentation, is owned by eleyed and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of any content you submit. By using the Service you grant us no rights to your content beyond what is necessary to process it in real time.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, eleyed shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to:

  • Data loss or undetected PII in redacted documents.
  • Service interruptions or downtime.
  • Losses arising from reliance on redacted output for compliance purposes.

Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Service Availability

We aim to provide a reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may perform maintenance, updates, or suspend the Service for operational reasons with or without prior notice.

13. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, with or without notice depending on severity. Upon termination, your account data will be deleted in accordance with our data retention practices. Unused credits are non-refundable on termination for breach.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

15. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
